Job Training Programs to Build Skills, Confidence, and Employment Success without Boundaries

Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries offers three workforce development programs through Vocational Rehabilitation Services. These programs help individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment gain the skills and experience needed to find and keep a job in their community.

Whether you’re looking for soft skills training, on-the-job experience, or support preparing for employment, we have a program to fit your goals.

Vocational Adjustment Training (VAT)

Vocational Adjustment Training is a classroom-based program designed to help individuals develop the interpersonal, social, and emotional skills needed to become job-ready. Through nine structured courses, participants build confidence, set goals, and prepare for real-world employment.

Work Adjustment Training (WAT)

Work Adjustment Training provides paid, hands-on work experience at Goodwill retail locations. This program helps individuals develop essential workplace skills while working alongside supportive mentors and a dedicated Success Coach.

Program Features:

  • Paid training (federal minimum wage)
  • Average of 125 training hours
  • Supervised, real work environment
  • Individualized employment goals
  • Available at Goodwill locations in McLennan, Bell, and Brazos counties

Skills Developed:

  • Attendance & reliability
  • Communication & customer service
  • Teamwork & problem-solving
  • Workplace accommodations & logistics

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age 16+ with a documented disability
  • Must be able to work up to 25 hours/week (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM)
  • Able to transport self or arrange transportation
  • Must provide two forms of ID
  • Pass a background check and drug screening
  • Enrolled with Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation Services or a school district
  • Must not require personal care assistance on-site

Work Experience Training (WET)

Work Experience Training (WET) gives participants the opportunity to learn and practice the skills necessary to succeed in a competitive job environment. Training takes place in Goodwill stores or at partner business locations in Coryell, McLennan, Bell, and Brazos counties.

This program supports individuals in developing positive work behaviors, communication skills, and personal responsibility while gaining real experience in a structured environment.
