Heart of Texas Goodwill Announces Temporary Store Closures

March 23, 2020
Over the past week, the leadership team of Heart of Texas Goodwill has closely monitored the COVID-19 pandemic situation in our region, our country, and our world. We have consistently heard from government officials that it’s our duty to help stop the spread of this virus. The health and safety of our employees, program participants, shoppers, and donors is our top priority, and we want to do our best to help protect our community. Therefore, after careful consideration, it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close all retail stores, donation centers, outlets, and Job Connection facilities effective Saturday, March 21, 2020. This is a temporary closure through Sunday, April 5, 2020.

Heart of Texas Goodwill will continue to accept donations during this temporary closure. Donation collection bins or donation attendants will be at each location to collect your items.

We will continue to monitor the situation and heed public officials’ recommendations on the best way to navigate the days and weeks ahead. At a safe and appropriate time, we will resume normal operations. We will share updates on here and our social media channels.
Stay safe and healthy,

Shannon Wittmer

A Message from our President & CEO: Our Response to COVID-19

March 16, 2020
Heart of Texas Goodwill is taking every step necessary to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and protect our employees, participants, community partners, customers, and donors. We will closely monitor and follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), local health officials, and Goodwill Industries International. Their recommendations and expertise will inform our decisions as we respond to the health threat.

The actions we are taking:

  • We are increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in all retail stores, offices, Job Connections, and donation drop-off centers.
  • We are mandating that all Goodwill retail employees wear gloves while at work.
  • We are asking all employees to take precautionary health measures including, frequent hand washing, social distancing, staying home when sick, and eliminating work travel until further notice.
  • We are suspending job readiness classes at our partner locations and requiring mission services staff to remain in the Job Connections to provide employment services and computer training.
  • For now, our retail facilities and Job Connections remain open because we are needed. Goodwill is more than just a thrift store. Clothing, housewares, and new products sold at our network of stores are items that many individuals in our community rely on. These items also create jobs, which give people the ability to earn a paycheck to take care of their families. Furthermore, the money generated through the sale of donated items in Goodwill retails stores is used to fund employment readiness services and job placement programs that help thousands of individuals each year. Without that source of funding, our service programs cannot happen.

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, we too may adjust our approach and response. Updates regarding changes to operating hours in Goodwill retail stores or Job Connections can be found here or you may contact the staff at each location. We will continue to keep you posted as this is an ever-evolving situation. Our online shopping experience remains open as well at www.shopgoodwill.com.

All of us at Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries know that this issue is a cause for concern for many. Please be assured that as circumstances continue to develop, we will make our decisions with the highest concern for the health and well-being of our customers, donors, employees, and community.
